Processes that occur in EC reactors can remove heavy metals, organic compounds, pesticides, and colloidal solids contained in wastewater without using chemicals.
Following are the advantages of using EC reactors in wastewater treatment:
1. Can process and remove many contaminants in one run EC reactor process
2. Produces low sludge. The electrodes used are not oxidized at a level that will add a significant amount of sludge. Low volume and toxicity allow the sludge formed to be dried simply, transported easily, and safely disposed of.
3. Low maintenance costs and quite simple, electrode plates are cleaned periodically with a dilute acid solution and after several processes need to be replaced with new ones.
The EC reactor process can be monitored with the small number of workers needed to operate and monitor.
4. Produces effluents with lower TDS. EC reactors have the ability to process wastewater and can reduce TDS compared to conventional coagulation chemical processes.
5. EC reactors can easily handle variations in wastewater quality. To process each type of wastewater requires only a slight change in voltage, reaction time or PH solution.
